Symphony Orchestra - Spring Auditions

Strings

To participate in The Ohio State University Symphony Orchestra, all string players are required to take a short audition for the full string faculty and the director of the OSU Symphony. These auditions will be used in faculty decisions on section placement and chamber music assignments.

These auditions are open to all interested string players: majors and non-majors, undergraduate and graduate. If you are new to the program and want to find out more about eligibility and audition requirements please contact Prof. Miriam Burns at burns.1165@osu.edu.

ATTENTION! For eligible non-major string players only: If you have schedule conflicts with the rehearsals on Fridays, you are still strongly encouraged to audition for the Symphony Orchestra. Once you are accepted, please contact the orchestra director to discuss an alternative arrangement for the conflict.

Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion

Woodwind, brass and percussion players are auditioned for the orchestra by their respective studio teachers in coordination with the auditions for the Ohio State Bands. The schedule, instructions and musical excerpts for these instruments are available on the bands website at Spring Audition Materials.
