Musical opportunities through Small Ensembles

There are diverse opportunities for small instrumental and vocal ensembles in the School of Music. Contact the appropriate faculty member to learn how to participate.

Note that not all ensembles are offered every semester.

Buckeye Flutes

  • MUSIC 2208.99‚ listed as Small Ens. Misc., Lecture Section 070 (23661) / Instructor: Katherine Borst Jones
  • Wednesdays 6:30–7:25 p.m.
  • A flute ensemble/choir for non-majors, meeting once a week 
  • The ensemble performs several times each semester at campus venues.

Buckeye Stringband

  • MUSIC 2208.99 (undergraduate) listed as Small Ens. Misc., Lecture Section 040 (37818) and 7208.99 (graduate) Lecture Section 080 (37819) / Instructor: Erin Allen
  • Thursdays 5:30–7:35 p.m.
  • An ensemble which plays a wide range of student-selected repertoire, including but not limited to bluegrass, old-time and country. 
  • Bringing your own instrument (fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, cello, accordion, etc.) is encouraged. Vocalists with no instrumental training and/or musicians without access to an instrument are welcome to join with consent of instructor.
  • For instrumentalists, some prior experience is recommended. Students should be comfortable changing between chords at a medium tempo.
