University Band with guest Art Haecker, trombone

The ensemble welcomes guest artist Art Haecker, trombone. Dr. Haecker is featured soloist in Arthur Pryor's Fantastic Polka, arranged by Andrew Glover. Also on the program are Flourish for Wind Band, Ralph Vaughan Williams; Irish Tune from County Derry, Percy Grainger; Chant and Jubilo, Francis McBeth; Three Songs from Sussex, Hugh Stuart; The Thunderer, John Philip Sousa. The University Band will be joined by the University Chorus in performing Claude T. Smith's arrangement of God of Our Fathers. Onsby C. Rose, conductor; Todd Fessler, guest conductor (Stuart); Joseph Carver, guest conductor (McBeth).

Dr. Art Haecker is currently the instructor of trombone at East Tennessee State University. Prior to his appointment at ETSU he was the principal trombonist of the Amman Symphony Orchestra, and instructor of low brass at the National Conservatory of Jordan. Before joining the ASO he enjoyed a successful performing career in the United States, performing with such groups as the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, The Illinois Opera and the Illinois Symphony. In addition, Arthur has participated in the Hot Springs Music Festival, the Brevard Music Center and the Southern Illinois Music Festival. He has also shared the stage with such artists as Ray Charles, Arturo Sandoval, Patrick Sheridan and Christine Brewer. He formerly served on the faculties of Newberry College, Hillsdale College and Millikin University. Arthur received a DMA from the University of Iowa, an MM in trombone from the University of Michigan, an MM in conducting from Winthrop University, and a BM from the Eastman School of Music.
