Rossini's William Tell Overture and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition (arr. Maurice Ravel) will be performed by the Ohio State Symphony Orchestra. David E. Becker, conductor.
Mussorgsky, who attended the art exhibit and memorial of his friend, the great painter Viktor Hartmann, subsequently wrote a solo piano composition based on ten of Hartmann's paintings (1874); in 1922, Serge Koussevitzky commissioned Ravel to orchestrate the piano work.
This event is free and open to the public. No ticket required.
