Duo Corcra performs new works for bassoon and saxophone

Duo Corcra - J. Adam Briggs and Genevieve Beaulieu
January 29, 2019
All Day
Hughes Auditorium

Genevieve Beaulieu, bassoon and J. Adam Briggs, saxophone, present a concert featuring works by living composers, including new pieces by Alexis Bacon, Larkin Sanders and Yoshihiro Fukagawa, all of which were commissioned by Duo Corcra — Bacon's Play, Sanders' How I Long to Grow Old and Fukagawa's Feathers of Black Swan.

The duo will also perform Songs and Dances by John Steinmetz and Snapshots by Takuma Itoh. While all works were written in the last decade, they each have a different take on tonality and personality.

Based in Holland, MI, Duo Corcra regularly performs recitals on concert series, music festivals and conferences across the Midwest and East Coast, most recently at the American Single Reed Summit, U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium and several North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences. Formed in 2014 while attending Michigan State University, saxophonist J. Adam Briggs and bassoonist Genevieve Beaulieu — an Ohio State alumna — have continued to explore the sonic possibilities created by the unconventional pairing. The duo has not only commissioned several new works for the medium, but also has arranged and transcribed several new versions of older works. Both performers spend their summers as artists-in-residence at the Taneycomo Music Festival.

This concert is free and open to the public. No ticket required.
