Michael Remy is a doctoral student and graduate teaching associate in music education at The Ohio State University. His research interests meet at the intersection of culture, context, music, and education. He has presented at notable conferences, including the 2022 NAfME National Conference in Washington, D.C.; the 2023 Technical University of Kenya Post-Graduate Symposium on Arts Education in Nairobi, Kenya; the 2023 Maine Music Education Association conference in Orono, Maine; and the 2023 Big Ten Academic Alliance Music Education Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is currently conducting research on a Filipino immigrant music teacher’s acclimation to life and work in Alaska and will present findings at the 2024 International Society for Music Education conference in Helsinki, Finland.

Prior to his studies at Ohio State, Michael spent 15 years exploring the role of culture and context in music education by teaching in diverse regions of the United States. Michael has taught in South Carolina, Alaska and Maine, teaching band, strings, jazz, music technology, music theory, guitar, popular music ensemble, music technology, music explorations, music appreciation, and elementary general music. He has also hosted several music listening and songwriting clubs and facilitated student-led informal concert series.

In addition to his work in public schools, Michael served as visiting faculty at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, developing and teaching the undergraduate course Music Fundamentals: Intro to Reading/Hearing/Writing/Playing.
