About the Artists

Azerbaijani-American flutist JEIRAN HASAN is the assistant professor of flute at Utah State University. An active and versatile musician, Dr. Hasan enjoys a multi-faceted career as a flutist and educator. A sought-after master teacher and adjudicator, Jeiran has given masterclasses around the globe, on four continents and the Middle East and in numerous languages, including Azerbaijani, Russian, Spanish and Arabic. Hasan is also a frequent presenter and clinical at flute fairs and colleges and universities across the United States.

Jeiran Hasan has competed in and been a prize winner or finalist in over twenty international and national competitions including the National Flute Association’s Orchestral Excerpt and Young Artist Competitions. Serving as the vice president for the Utah Flute Association, Jeiran is an active service member through the NFA and co-founded the Young Artist Mentorship Program. Hasan is a LefreQue Sound Bridge performing artist, and holds degrees from the University of Iowa (DMA) and the Cleveland Institute of Music (MM and BM). Visit www.j-hasan.com
 

Praised by the Boston Globe for her “fleet, energetic, and bright-toned” playing, pianist EMELY PHELPS enjoys a versatile career as a chamber musician, soloist, and teacher. Second prize winner of the 2023 Ernst Bacon Prize for American Music, Emely has given more than 50 performances over the past two years, with recent highlights including an all-American solo recital and educational residency in Ruth Crawford Seeger’s birthplace of East Liverpool (Ohio), Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Ohio University Wind Symphony, a performance of Robert McClure’s Celestial Miniatures at the MTNA National Conference, and duo recitals with violist Jonathan Bagg, trombonist Lucas Borges, and violinist Christine Harada Li.
An in-demand collaborator, Emely was a founding member of the prizewinning Trio Cleonice, with whom she spent eight years performing more than 150 concerts across the United States, Europe, and China. She appears on flutist Hannah Porter Occeña’s albums Confluence and Discovering Her Voice, as well as the CD Unbounded for the Delos label with violinist Dawn Wohn, all featuring duos by female composers. Emely is on the faculty of the Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festival and the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival, performs regularly with Electric Earth Concerts, and has attended numerous other chamber music festivals, including five summers at Yellow Barn and three summers at Kneisel Hall.

Emely currently serves as associate professor of instruction at Ohio University, where she co-chairs the keyboard division, teaches piano, chamber music, and keyboard repertoire, and directs the graduate collaborative piano degree program. She holds a doctoral degree from Stony Brook University, a BM and MM from Juilliard, and has studied with Christina Dahl, Julian Martin, Vivian Weilerstein, Marjorie Lee and Carole Kriewaldt.
