"Mahler's Ravishing Replies to Lyric Poetry: the Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Rückert Lieder"

A Lecture-Recital

Katherine Rohrer, soprano
Kimberly Monzón, soprano
Arved Ashby, presenter
Jiung Yoon, piano

A song won’t block a bullet or feed a child. But Gustav Mahler knew hunger and racism, and wrote Lieder spanning the widest range of feeling — and offering consolation in the face of pain. Sopranos Katherine Rohrer and (Ohio State alumna) Kimberly Monzón, collaborating with pianist Jiung Yoon and musicologist-presenter Arved Ashby, invite you to join them as they perform two of Mahler's most penetrating song sets and discuss this music's most intricate poetic nuances and musical secrets.
