Isabelle Thomas is pursuing the PhD degree in music theory and serves as a graduate teaching associate for music theory and aural training. Isabelle has a passion for music theory and education. As an educator, she grounds her pedagogy in transparency, collaboration, and the pursuit of curiosity. Her teaching experience spans a variety of age levels and musical disciplines, including piano, theory, percussion, and voice. She has also worked as a marching band percussion instructor and a music director for community theatre. In addition to teaching, Isabelle loves to perform. As a percussionist, she has performed in pit orchestras, the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps, and various chamber ensembles. Some of her research interests include musical theatre, movement and music analysis, popular music, and musical meaning. Isabelle has presented her research at many conferences, including Music and the Moving Image, Music Theory Midwest, and the Society for Music Theory annual conferences. She was also awarded an Honorable Mention at the 2026 Edward F. Hayes Advanced Research Forum in The Arts category for her work in movement and music analysis. Outside of music, Isabelle loves to craft, spend time with family and friends, and play with her cat Willow who occasionally makes appearances in Timashev!
