The 2012 William Poland Memorial Lecture will be held in room 090 of the Science and Engineering Library (basement), 175 West 18th Avenue.
This year's lecture will be given by Guerino Mazzola, professor of music theory at the University of Minnesota. The title of his talk is "Facts, Processes, and Gestures in Music: Theory and Software for Creativity." Guerino Mazzola is a Swiss mathematician, music theorist, jazz pianist, composer, and professor of music at University of Minnesota. His 2012 Poland lecture will give an overview of recent work in the theory of musical gesture, and present gestural approaches to music composition offered by the software he has pioneered, Rubato Composer and Presto.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
