Symphony Orchestra Course Information

Classes meet Tue./Thu. 1:50–3:55 and Wed. (strings) 5:20–6:15 p.m.
Strings auditions for the Symphony Orchestra are open to all students enrolled at Ohio State — regardless of major.
ATTENTION! For eligible non-major string players only: If you have schedule conflicts with the rehearsals on Wednesdays, you are still strongly encouraged to audition for the Symphony Orchestra. Once you are accepted, please contact Prof. Miriam Burns to discuss an alternative arrangement for the conflict.
Returning and new string students — String auditions will be video recorded by each auditionee, and submitted for evaluation by conducting and string faculty members.
Any new string players learning about the Symphony Orchestra during Welcome Week may audition in person on Monday afternoon, August 22 using the audition materials linked above. Please email Professor Miriam Burns to schedule your audition. Note that our first rehearsal will be Wednesday, August 24.
Woodwinds and Brass
Auditions are conducted in coordination with the auditions for the Ohio State Concert Bands. Audition materials for woodwind and brass instruments are available on the Bands Auditions page.
Non-Majors — Wind, brass and percussion non-majors seeking an orchestral experience are encouraged to join the Community Orchestra; please contact Jae Park.
