The Brahms Fund Small Cash Grant

Purpose

Tony Pasquarello, professor emeritus, philosophy, The Ohio State University, Mansfield campus, established this fund in honor of the great composer, Johannes Brahms, and in memory of his son, A. Joseph “Joe” Pasquarello (BM, violin, 1980). Its purpose is to promote and perpetuate the music of the Romantic through modern eras, 1830–1960, and encourage the study and performance of that music by endowing an annual “Brahms Award” as well as “Small Cash Grants” to assist music students.

Grant Description

Small cash grants are available upon application to deserving and needy undergraduate students for the purchase of supplies, scores, instrument repair, and other expenses related to the study of music. No single student shall receive more than $100 in any single year. Recipients shall be selected by the faculty of the School of Music and reported to the University's Office of Student Financial Aid.
 

Eligibility

Only undergraduate School of Music majors are eligible to apply. Students must have their tuition and fees paid in full to the university.
 

Application Process

Individuals need to complete the Brahms Fund Small Cash Grant application and turn it in to the associate director's office. Applications must be endorsed by a faculty member.

Review Process

Applications will be reviewed by the associate director, in consultation with the appropriate area head and the director, as needed. The proposal review will consist of an overall assessment of the merits of the proposed project (benefits to the student, how likely the student is to complete the task successfully, feasibility of the budget, etc.) as well as an assessment of the merits of the application itself (how well it explains the project and its benefits, the completeness of the application, readability, etc.).
