Terrilyn Shepherd is a music theorist and educator specializing in Galant Schemata theory, with a particular focus on historical pedagogical tools such as partimenti and schemata. Her research explores the application of these seventeenth- and eighteenth-century techniques to modern music theory education, culminating in her dissertation Partimenti and Schemata: Seventeenth-Century Educational Tools Applied to Modern Music Theory Education. She has presented different aspects of this work at the international conferences of Galant Schemata in Theory and Practice, and is a contributing author in the collective volume Schema Theory in Music: New Perspectives forthcoming.
Shepherd currently teaches music theory, aural training, and nineteenth-century music at The Ohio State University. Prior to her appointment at Ohio State, she held faculty positions at Oklahoma State University and Ball State University, where she taught a wide range of courses in music theory and musicianship.
Terrilyn Shepherd is a versatile flutist and harpist, performing as a soloist, orchestral musician, and freelance artist. With a passion for both performance and scholarship, Dr. Shepherd's diverse background and expertise allow her to engage audiences across a broad musical spectrum, bringing depth and artistry to every performance.
