Regarded as an exceptional Ukrainian pianist and educator, Dr. Diana Chubak is celebrated for her steadfast commitment to both musical performance and teaching. She performs across the United States and Europe, including in Ukraine, Poland, Spain, Belgium, Denmark and Germany; she has appeared as a soloist with the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Philharmonia and Chamber Orchestras, Seven Hills Symphony, Kyiv Symphony, Lviv Virtuosos Chamber Orchestra, Lviv Festival Orchestra, and the Ukrainian Presidential Orchestra. Her festival appearances include the Chatauqua Institution, Art of the Piano Festival, the International Summer Academy of Music in Ochsenhausen (Germany), the Gradus International Piano Festival (Denmark), and Bieszczady Without Borders International Piano Forum (Poland) where she was honored with the Golden Parnassus Award.
An active collaborative pianist, Dr. Chubak has partnered with distinguished musicians in recital, chamber music, and master classes, including Richard Aaron, Hans Jørgen Jensen, David Shifrin, and Guy Braunstein. She regularly appears nationwide in chamber music concerts, with recent performances at South Dakota State University and in Naples, FL. Her collaborations include engagements with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, where she accompanied guest artists’ master classes, performed with the orchestra’s musicians, and worked with the CSO’s Nouveau Program for students from underrepresented backgrounds. She has served as Principal Keyboard for the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Rehearsal Pianist and Coach for Queen City Opera, and Collaborative Piano Coordinator at the Ascent Chamber Music Festival. At CCM, she served as a Graduate Assistant in Instrumental Accompanying, as well as collaborative pianist in the Preparatory, Musical Theatre, and Opera Departments.
Chubak’s achievements in international competitions include prizes from the Myroslav Skoryk Competition (Ukraine), the International Siegfried-Weishaupt-Klavierwettbewerb (Germany), the International ProArt Competition (Ukraine), and the Tuesday Musical Scholarship Competition (Ohio). While a student at the CCM she won the concerto competition twice, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and Gershwin’s Concerto in F with the CCM Philharmonia. She has received financial support from the Vere Music Fund, the Richard Wagner Society for participation in the 2019 Bayreuth Festival, the Dorothy Stolzanbach-Payne Foundation, and CCM’s Graduate Incentive Full Scholarship.
Beyond her performance career, Dr. Chubak is deeply committed to promoting Ukrainian music. She founded Music for Ukraine, a charity concert series raising awareness and funds for Ukrainians affected by war, and established the nonprofit organization Ukrainian Classical Music Project Inc., dedicated to preserving and promoting Ukrainian classical music. Her debut digital album, Neskoreni, Vol. 1: Bortkiewicz, stands as a tribute to her artistic vision and cultural heritage.
Prior to her appointment at The Ohio State University, Dr. Chubak served as a piano instructor in CCM’s Secondary Piano and Pedagogy Department and later as an Adjunct Piano Professor at Wilmington College.
Chubak holds her Doctor of Musical Arts and master’s degrees in Piano Performance, with a cognate in Piano Pedagogy, from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Awadagin Pratt, Michael Chertock, and Dror Biran. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from the Lviv National Music Academy, where she studied under Oksana Rapita; and her AM in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from the Ternopil Solomiya Krushelnytska Music College, where she studied with Lesya Korniy.
