Add to Calendar 2023-09-26 19:30:00 2023-09-26 21:00:00 Latin American Music Celebration Concert In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15), the School of Music proudly presents a musical experience that highlights the cultures of Latin America. This annual concert will feature both classical and contemporary works by renowned Latinx composers across Argentina (Guastavino, Piazzola), Brazil (Pixinguinha, Rosauro), Cuba (Chico O'Farrill), Mexico, Paraguay (Figueroa) and Spain (Cassarrubios). School of Music student and faculty performers include a student brass quintet (Ben Guegold and Luke Bingham, trumpets; Annie Moon, horn; Sean O'Brien, bass trombone; Justin White, tuba); Meagan Gaskill, flute and Saoirse Hurley, double bass; Percussion Ensemble (Tres Perkins, Kye Pyeatt, Sam Sherer, Haydn Veith); Coral Varian and Kayla Reid, flute duet and Andrew Haines, tambourine; Michael Rene Torres, alto saxophone; Helen Allen, voice and Philip Everingham, piano; Stevie Johnson, mixmaster/electronic artist; Rosa Balderrama Flores, cello; and The Ohio State University Jazz Ensemble, Mike Smith, conductor. This event is free and open to the public. No ticket required. Livestream broadcast begins at 7::30 p.m. Access the digital program before, during or after the event. GETTING HERE Park in the Ohio Union South Garage (open to visitors 24/7), walk North along College Rd. to enter the South doors of the Timashev Music Building. Weigel Auditorium is located on the second floor at the far south end of the building. An open stairway located just inside the south doors leads to the hall. If an elevator is needed, walk through the Music Commons, behind the open stairway to the back hallway. Follow the hallway through the double doors to the elevator.
