2013-02-07 16:00:00 2013-02-07 18:00:00 Uzee Brown, ODI Distinguished Lecturer, presents master class (No ticket required) Dr. Uzee Brown, Jr., chairman of the music department at Morehouse College and director of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church Choir in Atlanta, has been designated an ODI Distinguished Lecturer by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Brown's presentation is entitled "Stylistic considerations for the performance of African American religious and secular folk songs."  Vocal students performing are Cierra Byrd, soprano; Jaron LeGrair, tenor; Lianna Williams, mezzo soprano; Hanan Davis, soprano, and Cameron Gachett, tenor.   Selections composed or arranged by Moses Hogan ("Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child"), H.T. Burleigh ("Were You There?"), Mark Hayes ("Give Me Jesus"), H. Leslie Adams ("Creole Girl") and John Work, Jr. ("Soliloquy").
Dr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College, a Master of Music in composition from Bowling Green State University, and a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in voice performance from the University of Michigan. He has received numerous composition and arranging commissions ranging from National Public Radio and the Atlanta Symphony to colleges, universities, church and civic organizations, and his compositions have been heard throughout the world, including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. His engagements include master classes, workshops and recitals of African American music from work songs and spirituals to art songs.This event is open to the public.  Hughes Hall Auditorium America/New_York public
