This exploration and openness of new approaches to modern musical practice is leading to more connectivity between performing, composing and improvising and can result in personalized musical experiences, creative musicianship and enhanced interpretative skills. Join us for a lively panel discussion with accomplished saxophonist/composers Erin Rogers and Nick Zoulek with host and fellow saxophonist/composer, Michael Rene Torres. The panel will explore topics related to the modern performer/composer model of comprehensive musicianship with topics ranging from the culture of being a performer-composer; the benefits of and how each of these skills enhances, influences and informs the other; the panelists’ individual creative processes and how/why they began exploring composition as saxophonist; how improvisation as saxophonists plays a role in their compositional process; to ideas and advice for how to begin experimenting and exploring composition as performers, and more.
