2013-02-01 20:00:00 2013-02-01 21:30:00 OSU Symphony Orchestra with Edward Bak, piano soloist The Symphony Orchestra presents the Overture to Benvenuto Cellini by Hector Berlioz; Symphony No. 8 by Ludwig van Beethoven; and Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Sergei Rachmaninoff, featuring piano soloist and Ohio State faculty member, Edward Bak.  Conductor, Marshall Haddock.Edward Bak was characterized by Le Libre Belgique as "a pianist who knows how to ally fury and restraint, elegance and lyrical effusion" and was praised in the Cleveland Plain Dealer for playing "[with] fire, excitement, and a real sense of grandeur."  Bak, a senior lecturer at The Ohio State University School of Music, is a highly sought after collaborative pianist. He appears regularly in concert with established artists and emerging talents, and has been heard in such venues as the Teatro Colon, The Monnaie, The Festival Lanaudiere, The Philips Collection, and Kolarac Hall. He is active as a chamber musician and as such has shared the stage with members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony. As an advocate of modern music Bak has performed the works of many living composers, and he has given world premieres of several works.  He was awarded special recognition for his performance of 20th century music in the Queen Elisabeth International Competition.  An internationally recognized vocal coach, he has also worked with great artist teachers like Martina Arroyo, Renata Scotto, Ellen Faull, Shirlee Emmons, Renee Fleming, and John Shirley-Quirk.
