
Kenneth Potsic is a bassoon repair specialist, bassoonist, and bassoon reed tool maker currently working in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Having begun as a manufacturer of bassoon profiling machines in 1994, his business currently focuses almost entirely on bassoon repairs and restorations and serves many players in major orchestras as well as students from across the country. In addition to his work in the field of bassoon repair, Mr. Potsic has performed as a freelancer with many orchestras, both regional and major, including the Omaha Symphony, Baltimore Symphony and Chicago Symphony.
Mr. Potsic received his Bachelor's degree in performance from Northwestern University, where he studied with Robert Barris. He continued his education at the Eastman School of Music, where he received his Master of Music degree studying with John Hunt. Subsequently, Mr. Potsic studied for two years with David McGill while a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Additionally, he spent three years working in the field of woodwind instrument repair with Holden McAleer in Baltimore. A native of the Chicago suburb of Elmhurst, Illinois, Mr. Potsic and his wife Jennifer Barlament, currently the executive director of the Kalamazoo Symphony, reside in Galesburg, Michigan, where they are stewarding a 1948 Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home.
