Barry Green

BARRY GREEN is a native Californian who served as principal bassist of the Cincinnati Symphony for 28 years. Formerly the executive director of the International Society of Bassists, he currently teaches double bass at The Ohio State University where he has also organized and directed high school Bass Days, All State University Bass Symposia, and summer Bass Camps.

Formerly professor of bass at University of California–Santa Cruz and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Green has also written three bass method books and many solo recordings. As a bass soloist, Green has created three new multimedia productions called Anna’s Way: from Inspiration to Artistry, Anna’s Gift: the Way of Passion, and Anna’s Promise, composed by Andres Martin and based on inspirational stories orchestrated for solo bass with combos, bands or orchestra. Green's latest multimedia concert program is a documentary-style concert of Russian music, entitled From Russia With Love.

Green is the author of three books dealing with the philosophy of music, the mind, body and spirit: The Inner Game of Music (Doubleday, 1986), The Mastery of Music: Ten Pathways to True Artistry (Broadway/Doubleday 2003) and Bringing Music to Life! (GIA, 2009). His most recent projects include an eight-part video series with co-host Jason Heath called Buckeye Bass Bash, the formation of the Bass Club Cincinnati, and a popular video string method called Stringersize.


Andres Martin

Native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, bassist, arranger and composer ANDRÉS MARTÍN has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles in Argentina, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, England, Germany and United States. Since his arrival in Tijuana (Mexico), Andrés has been immersed in teaching as well as performing as a soloist and chamber musician. He is a member of the Orquesta de Baja California and Cuatro para Tango, a chamber ensemble with whom he has released four recordings.

As a composer and arranger, Martín works with a wide language which ranges from contemporary techniques to tango and rock. His work has been performed and recorded by very successful orchestras, ensembles and soloists in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Japan and the United States. Andrés Martín participated in Ohio State Bass Day in 2019, and has written numerous solo pieces and performed in duo and chamber concerts with Barry Green.


Jason Heath

JASON HEATH is an active double bass performer, educator, blogger and podcaster. A native of South Dakota, Jason began playing with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and Sioux City Symphony Orchestra at age fifteen. He has co-produced and hosted eight episodes of Buckeye Bass Bash with Barry Green, and taught at the Ohio State summer Bass Camp in 2019. Barry and Jason have worked together at numerous musical festivals, camps and conventions.

Heath actively writes about the classical music world and the double bass. His blog also includes stories about life as a freelance double bassist, resources for performing musicians and classical music fans, and educational advice for music performance students. Jason is also the host of Contrabass Conversations, a weekly podcast about the double bass, which receives millions of views internationally.


Tracy Rowell

TRACY ROWELL is an active performer and teacher in the Cleveland area. Formerly the assistant principal bassist of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa (Canada), Tracy currently serves as principal bass for CityMusic Cleveland. Ms. Rowell has also performed with such orchestras as the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, North Carolina Symphony and Carmel Bach Festival. She may be heard as a soloist in Telemann’s Grillen-Symphonie with Apollo’s Fire (Koch International recording).

She is a frequent clinician at bass workshops including the Institut Francois Rabbath Summer Bass Workshop, Kansas City Bass Workshop and Peabody Bass Works. Tracy has been a frequent collaborator and teacher with Barry at previous Ohio State Bass College Symposia, Oho State Bass Day and summer Bass Camp, as well as at International Society of Bassists Conventions.


Michael Brosius

MICHAEL BROSIUS is in his tenth year of teaching orchestra in Dublin City Schools. In 2016 he was elected South Central Region Orchestra Chair. Mr. Brosius was named OSTA Young String Teacher of the year in 2016.

He performs in the Newark Granville Symphony and maintains a studio of middle school and high school bassists. Mike has taught at previous Bass Days and Bass Camps at The Ohio State University and participated in faculty bass ensembles at these clinics.


Milton V. Ruffin

MILTON VAUGHN RUFFIN holds a BM in Jazz Studies and BME, MA and PhD degrees in Music Education from The Ohio State University. He has been employed by Columbus City Schools for 31 years, currently as principal and director of the Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center. Dr. Ruffin was the 2019 recipient of The Ohio State University School of Music Distinguished Alumnus Award, and a 2019 Inductee to the Ohio Jazz Music Hall of Fame. Under Dr. Ruffin's leadership,

Ruffin has presented at numerous conferences including OMEA and the Berklee City Music conference. A highly respected musician, Ruffin was the composer for the Columbus 200 Celebration Anthem for the city of Columbus, Ohio.

As a bassist, Ruffin has shared the stage with such greats as Lou Rawls. Ruffin has many awards and professional accomplishments to his credit. In 2021 Milton joined the jazz faculty at Ohio State. Barry welcomes Milton to his first Bass Day and summer Bass Camp.


Paul Robinson

PAUL ROBINSON is professor emeritus of double bass at The Ohio State University, where he taught for 39 years. He was a member of the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra for 30 years and is a former member of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC. He is a founding member of the Contemporary Music Forum in Washington, DC and has performed in venues such as The White House and Carnegie Hall. He has performed, conducted a variety of workshops, or delivered presentations in Canada, England, Scotland, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Brazil and throughout the United States. Paul has been a clinician at previous Bass Days and Bass Camps at The Ohio State University and performed with Barry in faculty bass ensembles.


Garry Wasserman

GARRY WASSERMAN, adjunct professor and double bass artist faculty at Ohio University, has held playing positions with the Florida Philharmonic, Harrisburg Symphony, Hong Kong (China) Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony (substitute), and Principal Bass with the Columbus Bach Ensemble. Currently he performs as an associate member with the Columbus Symphony and as Co-Principal Bass with the New Albany Symphony. His solo performances include recitals in Hong Kong, Miami, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Athens. In 2019, he served as faculty and lecturer at both Bass Day and summer Bass Camp at Ohio State.
