Studio Recital Scheduling and Resources
"Studio Recitals" are public performances presented by a School of Music studio (e.g. Trombone, Guitar, Flute) and are comprised primarily of music majors and non-majors on that instrument. They may also include combined-studio chamber ensembles (e.g. Strings).
Registered student organizations (e.g. Buckeye Trombones, CellOhio, etc.) are subject to School of Music Student Organization event policies.
The following policies do not apply to the regularly-scheduled 11:30 a.m. studio/departmental classes.
Scheduling
Each performance studio is limited to one (1) public performance per semester in the Recital Hall or Weigel Auditorium.
Additional performances may be scheduled — subject to availability — in alternative spaces such as N160 or N300. These events do not receive stage crew support.
Studio performance requests (outside the 11:30 a.m. hour) open in Round Three of the School of Music calendar build. Round One (January): Ensemble and Admissions; Round Two: Faculty/Guest Recitals, Festivals, Outreach; Round Three: Studio events (typically February for the following academic year). A formal announcement will be issued two weeks prior to the Round Three opening. Submit requests to Tim Donel at donel.1@osu.edu.
Exception: Due to high demand for the Recital Hall for degree recitals, studio performances requested for after March 1 may be scheduled only in Weigel Auditorium or one of the alternative spaces.
Stage Crew and House Support
Studios must provide at least one (1) usher for any public performance held in the Recital Hall or Weigel Auditorium.
Ushers should warmly greet guests and offer wayfinding (elevator, restrooms, seating, accessibility).
One (1) stage crew member will be assigned to setup and strike a performance in the Recital Hall or Weigel Auditorium. No crew member will be assigned during the run of the performance. When the Spirio grand piano is required for the Piano Studio, only appropriate crew will rotate the pianos.
If requested, stage crew will continue to clear and set the Recital Hall and Weigel stages for the regularly scheduled 11:30 studio meetings. Set information must be provided in advance.
Recording Services
Studio performances, including departmentals, will not be audio recorded, video recorded or livestreamed.
