Savanna Wooten is a PhD student and graduate teaching associate in musicology and ethnomusicology at The Ohio State University. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, she graduated summa cum laude from Eastern Illinois University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a minor in Jazz Studies. Savanna’s research interests include women, gender roles, and stereotypes in jazz.

In addition to her musicology research, Savanna is an active trombonist and educator. At the 2023 Illinois Music Educators Conference, Savanna presented a session titled “Commissioning New Works by Diverse Composers: Amplifying New Voices in Music” based on her independent research commissioning new works for trombone.

Outside of school, Savanna enjoys reading, crocheting, and spending time with her cat.
