GUEST ARTIST

Violinist and pianist Yi Chieh Anita Chiu 邱依婕 is a native of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. At age 4, she began studying piano and violin. She served as concertmaster at the National FHSH Symphony Orchestra, NTUA Symphony Orchestra, BG Sinfonietta, Bowling Green State University Philharmonia, The Ohio State University Symphony Orchestra, Opera Columbus, among others.

A recipient of 2016 Distinguished Studio and Creative Arts Award at Bowling Green State University, Chiu also won first prize in the graduate division in 2015 Douglas Wayland Chamber Music Competition. As a collaborative pianist, Chiu has played in recitals, chamber ensembles and orchestras. She was also a prize winner in the 2016 Conrad Art Song Competition.

Chiu performs regularly with Springfield Symphony Orchestra and Lima Symphony Orchestra where she serves as assistant concertmaster. She also plays with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Akron Symphony Orchestra. Additionally she was hired as a violin mentor for the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra during the 2016–2017 season.

Chiu has many experiences working in orchestras as well as in chamber ensembles. She was awarded the graduate string quartet assistantship at Bowling Green. She also joined a piano trio as a violinist, and as pianist in a euphonium and tuba trio during her time in Bowling Green, Ohio. Her participation and performances in the new music ensemble were also highly recognized by faculties and guest composers during the Bowling Green New Music Festival.

Besides being an active performer, Chiu holds a private studio with selected students. She was also invited to be the adjudicator at music competitions and scholarships evaluations. In 2022, the W.A.Y. Trio, of which Chiu is the violinist, had released their first album Love Lifted Me on music streaming services.

Chiu studied both violin and collaborative piano at Bowling Green State University (MM, 2016 and 2017) with Penny Kruse and Solungga Liu. She also studied with Kia-Hui Tan at Ohio State (DMA, 2022).
