This concert features six student soloists - undergraduate and master's - who auditioned for a panel of performance faculty judges in January. Also featured is a world premiere of a student composition written specifically for this concert by Joseph Sferra. His work, entitled Echoes from Elsinore, is inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet. The OSU Symphony has commissioned one of our student composers, chosen by the composition faculty in conjunction with conductor Marshall Haddock, every year since 1991 to write a full orchestra piece to be premiered on the spring concerto concert.
Student performers and selections are Cory Blais, Allegro moderato from the Cello Concerto by S. Barber; Jacob Darrow, Allegro from the Bassoon Concerto in Bb Major, W. A. Mozart; Jaman Dunn, baritone, "Largo al Factotum" from The Barber of Seville, G. Rossini; Chelsea Hart, mezzo soprano, "Ah fors e lui" from La Traviata, G. Verdi; Chelsea Tanner, Fantasie for Flute, G. Hüe; Holly Kessis and Brooke Anderson, Allegro and Larghetto from the Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra, F. Poulenc.
