The Ohio State Violin Studio welcomes alumnus Vincent Heng-Chen Chao (趙恆振) who will present a master class.

This event is free and open to the public.

Tenured Professor of Violin at the National Chiayi University and National Taiwan Normal University in Taiwan, Dr. Vincent Heng-Chen Chao is already establishing a name for himself as a seasoned pedagogue with a strong studio of young artists. His past students have won major prizes in national and international competitions including the Menuhin, Michael Hill, Cremona, and Taiwan national competitions, and hold positions in professional orchestras worldwide such as Philadelphia Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Macau Philharmonic, Toronto and Taipei Symphony Orchestras, National Taiwan Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic, among several professional orchestras in China.

Equally at home performing on the concert stage, Chao has given recitals and chamber music performances at venues such as the Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, Suntory Hall of Japan, National Concert and Recital Halls of Taiwan, Victoria and Esplanade Halls of Singapore, among many others. Prior to his return to Taiwan, he had served as the Concertmaster of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and section violinist of the National Symphony Orchestra (Washington, DC) in the USA. He was invited to many world-leading festivals such as the Tanglewood, National Orchestral Institute, Heifetz International Music Institute of the USA, Pacific Music Festival of Japan, and Schleswig-Holstein Festival of Germany.

A graduate of the Juilliard School, Ohio State and University of Maryland-College Park, Chao’s principal teachers include distinguished artists Daniel Heifetz, James Buswell, Margaret Pardee, Michael Davis, Tyrone Greive, and members of the legendary Guarneri Quartet — Arnold Steinhardt, Michael Tree, and John Dalley.

Dr. Chao kept an excellent track of sending advanced students to prestigious music schools such as Juilliard, Curtis, Yale, New England Conservatory, among other fine European conservatories on a yearly basis. His dedication to pedagogy has also led him to serve as Artist Faculty during the summers at Cremona International Festival (Italy); I-Hao Lee Music Program (Shanghai, China); and Singapore Raffles International Music Festival.

As a devoted scholar, Chao has published specialized articles in academic music journals. His recent in-depth research on Eugène Ysaÿe’s Six Sonatas for Solo Violin has been published to international critical acclaim, and represents the first comprehensive study of its kind in the Chinese language.
