Ilan Schul, Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, will present master classes for clarinet and chamber music at The Ohio State University School of Music.

Prof. Schul has served since 2003 as president of the Jerusalem Academy, Israel’s premier institute of artistic education, creativity and performance. He previously served as Dean, Faculty of Performing Arts and head of the Department of Winds and Percussion. He is currently head of the clarinet class and was music director of the Jerusalem Academy Chamber Orchestra for twenty years. He was pedagogic director of Giora Feidman's "Clarinet and Klezmer in the Galilee" Seminar for seven years. He was principal clarinetist of the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, which also serves as the house orchestra of the Israeli Opera; he held a similar position with the Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva.

A graduate of the University of Southern California-Los Angeles, Prof. Schul is a frequent soloist with orchestras and chamber music ensembles in Israel, and was for several years a member of the Doron Ensemble for Twentieth Century Music. Prof. Schul has appeared as guest conductor with the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva, Musica Nova, and the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, where he was house conductor. He served as assistant conductor of the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion for seven years. Prof. Schul has conducted several ensembles on tour in the U.S. and Germany.

In the past year, Prof. Schul has been giving lecture-concerts and presentations about the Art of Klezmer in the United States and Europe.
