Collaborative Piano Guidelines and Request Form
Collaborative piano support is free of charge for required School of Music events (rehearsals, lessons, studio classes, departmentals, recitals).
Availability is limited! Submitting the request form early is essential.
Students — familiarize yourself with all guidelines below before making a request.
Requests should be submitted through the Collaborative Piano Request Form. Our goal is to improve efficiency, support as many requests as possible, and ensure the collaborative pianists’ workload remains sustainable.
Guidelines
- Availability is limited! Submitting the request form early is essential.
- A collaborative pianist may be available for a maximum of 10 hours per semester per student (including rehearsals, lessons, studio classes, departmentals, and recitals), with some exceptions. We kindly ask that you plan accordingly.
- Priority is given to students with upcoming degree/studio recitals and departmental performances who submit requests on time.
Recommended Deadlines
- Within the first 2 weeks of the semester (availability becomes limited after the first two weeks)
- At least 2 months before a recital/studio/departmental
- At least 4 weeks before a jury
Student Responsibilities
- Provide a score (PDF or hard copy) well in advance of the first rehearsal.
- Arrive prepared, punctual, and respectful.
- Communicate promptly about scheduling, repertoire, and any changes.
- Notify both your pianist and Dr. Chubak (chubak.2@osu.edu) if you cancel or change repertoire.
- For recordings or services outside of Ohio State, students are responsible for arranging private compensation. If no pianist is available for a request, we can provide recommendations for outside pianists.
