Collaborative Piano Guidelines and Request Form

Collaborative piano support is provided free of charge for School of Music events, including students’ degree recitals, studio recitals, departmentals, faculty and guest artist performances. Faculty, graduate assistants, and student pianists are available to collaborate. Assignments are based on pianists' availability, workload, repertoire difficulty, scheduling, and other relevant considerations.

Guidelines

• Availability is limited! Submitting the request form early and before the deadline is essential. 
• A faculty collaborative pianist may be available for a maximum of 10 hours per semester per student, including rehearsals, lessons, studio classes, departmentals, and recitals. Please plan accordingly.
• Priority is given to students with upcoming degree recitals who submit requests on time. 
• Faculty submissions on behalf of students will not be accepted.

Fall Semester 2026 Deadlines

Degree Recital Requests

• The form will open on Monday, Aug. 24.
• The degree recital request deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 9.
• Degree recital requests submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

All Other Events

• Requests must be submitted at least one month in advance of studio recitals, departmental events, or juries.
• Faculty requests for guest artist master classes or recitals must be submitted at the beginning of the semester.
• Short-notice requests will not be considered.

Spring Semester 2027 Deadlines

Degree Recital Requests

• The form will open on Wednesday, January 6.
• The degree recital request deadline is Friday, January 22.

Student Responsibilities

• Provide a score, either PDF or hard copy, well in advance of the first rehearsal.
• Arrive prepared, punctual, and respectful.
• Do not schedule a rehearsal unless you have thoroughly studied the piano part and know how all parts align.
• Communicate promptly regarding scheduling, repertoire, and any changes.
• Notify both your pianist and Dr. Chubak (chubak.2@osu.edu) if you cancel your event. Any repertoire change requires a new submission.
• For recordings or services outside of Ohio State, students are responsible for arranging private compensation.
• If no pianist is available for a request, recommendations for pianists available for hire will be provided.
