Nicholas Robbins is a first-year master’s student in saxophone performance and a graduate teaching associate for music theory I and aural skills I. He is originally from Jenkins, Kentucky, and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance from Morehead State University (Morehead, KY). 

During his time at Morehead State, Robbins was very active in the community. He served as treasurer and as president for the Morehead State Saxophone Club. He also served as secretary and president for Phi Mu Alpha, Theta Pi. Nic was involved in many ensembles at Morehead State and in ensembles throughout Kentucky, such as Morehead State’s Jazz Ensemble, Morehead State’s Symphonic Winds, the Mountain Arts Center Wind Orchestra, and many more. 

Not only was he active in ensembles and in student organizations, but he was also awarded an undergraduate research fellowship in his junior year at Morehead State. Under the mentorship of Dr. Michele Paise, he researched a project he titled “Helping Band Students Succeed: Autism and the Music Classroom.” Robbins was granted the opportunity to present his research at “Posters at the Capitol” in Frankfort, Kentucky, and was awarded Exceptional Merit at Morehead State’s Student Celebration. In his senior year, Robbins served as the music tutor for Morehead State University. His duties included tutoring students in music theory and music history. 

Nicholas Robbins is excited to continue his studies at The Ohio State University under Dr. Michael Rene Torres. His goals for his master’s degree are to continue to hone and improve his skills in the saxophone, as well as learn how to become a better instructor.
