Elaine Mylius is a trombonist and educator based in Columbus, Ohio. She began playing trombone at age 10, and went on to study at The Ohio State University under Joseph Duchi while also receiving jazz instruction from Jim Masters, Kris Johnson, and Shawn Wallace. At Ohio State she was awarded the Scantland Scholarship, and was selected for the prestigious Disneyland All-American College Band, performing and studying with leading industry professionals.
Since graduating in 2016, Mylius has established herself as one of the city’s most versatile performers, playing with jazz, hip hop, salsa, neo-soul, and funk groups. She is the lead trombonist for Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, regularly performs with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, and is a member of Conspiracy Band. She is also the leader of The OG Players, a neo-soul/hip hop group in which she plays trombone and violin with loop station. Her career has included international touring with Princess Cruise Lines and opening for artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire; Chicago; Cory Henry; and Robert Glasper.
Elaine Mylius brings over a decade of experience as a performer and educator to her teaching. She specializes in jazz trombone, improvisation, and ensemble performing, working with students to build strong technical foundations while developing their unique voice.
