The School of Music welcomes flutist Jeiran Hasan and collaborative pianist Emely Phelps, presenting "Female Composers of Azerbaijan and America." Solo and duo works by Lala Jafarova, Lawren Brianna Ware, Sharneisha Joyner, Elnara Dadsheva, Amanda Harberg, Rahilia Hasanova, and Valerie Coleman.

Azerbaijani-American flutist Jeiran Hasan, assistant professor of flute at Utah State University, is an active and versatile musician, enjoying a multi-faceted career as a flutist and educator. A sought-after master teacher and adjudicator, Jeiran has given masterclasses around the globe, on four continents and the Middle East and in numerous languages, including Azerbaijani, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic. Dr. Hasan is also a frequent presenter and clinical at flute fairs, colleges and universities across the U.S. Hasan has competed in and been a prize winner or finalist in over twenty international and national competitions including the National Flute Association’s Orchestral Excerpt and Young Artist Competitions. Serving as vice president for the Utah Flute Association, Jeiran is an active service member through the NFA, and co-founded the Young Artist Mentorship Program. Hasan is a LefreQue Sound Bridge performing artist and holds degrees from the University of Iowa (DMA) and the Cleveland Institute of Music (MM and BM). Visit Jeiran Hasan
Praised by the Boston Globe for her “fleet, energetic, and bright-toned” playing, pianist Emely Phelps enjoys a versatile career as a chamber musician, soloist and teacher. Second prize winner of the 2023 Ernst Bacon Prize for American Music, Emely has given more than 50 performances since 2022, notably an all-American solo recital and educational residency in Ruth Crawford Seeger’s birthplace (East Liverpool, Ohio); Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Ohio University Wind Symphony, and many more. An in-demand collaborator, Emely was a founding member of the prizewinning Trio Cleonice with whom she played for eight years. She appears in recordings featuring duos by female composers, with flutist Hannah Porter Occeña and with violinist Dawn Wohn. Emely is on the faculty of the Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festival and the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival, performs regularly with Electric Earth Concerts, and has attended numerous other festivals. As associate professor of Instruction at Ohio University, Emely co-chairs the keyboard division and directs the graduate collaborative piano degree program. Park in the Ohio Union South Garage (open to visitors 24/7), walk north along College Rd. to enter the south doors of the Timashev Music Building.
You may also park in Arps Garage (open to visitors M–F after 4 p.m. and on weekends) just north of the Timashev Music building.
The Timashev Recital Hall is located on the ground floor, at the far north end of the building.
