Sadie Wuertz is a PhD student in Musicology at The Ohio State University, where she is also pursuing a Medieval and Renaissance Studies Certificate. Her research interests include 12th–13th century chant within the context of fringe female monastic communities, women’s roles in early Christianity, manuscript studies, and early music influences in the folk revival of the 1960s and 1970s.
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Wuertz completed her bachelor’s degrees in vocal performance and English at the University of Portland (Oregon). During her time in Portland, Wuertz participated in the Honors program which encouraged interdisciplinary independent research — ultimately inspiring her to pursue musicology. Outside of classes, she was a writing and music theory tutor, served as editor-in-chief of UP’s literary and art magazine, and worked for UP’s student newspaper, The Beacon, as sports editor and opinions editor. After graduating in 2022, she sang with the Portland Choral Arts Ensemble and worked at Jesuit High School as Marketing and Communications Specialist.
In her free time, Sadie Wuertz enjoys singing with the Columbus Symphony Chorus, doing yoga, exploring vintage and antique stores, solving crosswords, and playing with her cat Dizzy Gillespie.
