Lee D. Thompson

Lee D. Thompson serves as collaborative pianist and accompanist in the School of Music. Prior to coming to The Ohio State University, he held a position as adjunct professor of music at the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance. He is also Professor of Music, Emeritus at Whitman College, Walla Walla, WA, where he served on the faculty from 1986 to 2011. As head of piano and accompanying studies at Whitman College, he taught applied piano, accompanying, foreign language diction for singers, and courses in the history of music.

Dr. Thompson served as pianist/vocal coach on the music staff of the Santa Fe Opera 1996–2000. In 2000 he was appointed an American Cultural Ambassador by the State Department of the United States, and worked with the Mongolian National Opera as principal vocal coach for its first-ever English language production. Thompson has toured internationally as a collaborative artist, performing concerts in Vienna, London, Graz (Austria), Kunming (People’s Republic of China), Bucharest (Romania) and Canada.

Thompson holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Master of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from Baylor University. He has held faculty positions in music at Whitman College, University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory of Music, and Baylor University.
