Lucas Reed is an oboist and composer from London, Kentucky. He currently resides in the Columbus, Ohio area where he is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The Ohio State University, studying with Prof. Abby Yeakle Held. He serves as a graduate teaching associate with the Musicology area of the School of Music, as well as gigs and teaching lessons in the area. He is a recent graduate of Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas where he received his Master of Music degree, studying both oboe and composition under Alyssa Morris. He received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University (Richmond, KY) where he studied oboe with Julie Smith and composition with Thomas Couvillon. He has also studied with David Powell and Natalie Myers.

As a performer, Reed has appeared in prestigious venues across the world. In 2026, he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City with the Kansas State University Wind Ensemble. He has performed in two separate tours of Europe. As a founding member of the Little Apple Oboe Quartet, based out of Manhattan, Kansas,  he has performed in educational and outreach concerts across the State of Kansas, as well as at the 2025 International Double Reed Society Conference. While in Kansas, he performed frequently with the Salina Symphony, Manhattan Symphony, Manhattan Municipal Band, Bethany Oratorio Society, and Flint Hills Chamber Orchestra.

Reed has composed multiple works for solo instruments and chamber groups. His compositions have been performed at various venues across the United States, as well as at the International Double Reed Society Conference in 2025. His double reed works have been published at Trevco Music.

In addition to his performance responsibilities, Reed serves as the treasurer for the MidNorth Regional Chapter of the International Double Reed Society. He has also been on staff as a woodwind technician for the South Laurel High School Marching Band since 2022. Lucas Reed previously served as the oboe-at-large and marketing coordinator for the MidSouth Regional Chapter of the International Double Reed Society from 2024–2026, made reeds professionally for MKL Reeds, and was a salesperson with Manning Music. He also worked as a graduate research assistant with the Kansas State Department of Psychological Sciences in the Auditory Learning and Cognition Lab.
