Currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at The Ohio State University, Sunghwan holds master’s degrees in both piano performance and collaborative piano from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he served as a graduate assistant and presented over 20 recitals. He also graduated summa cum laude upon completing his undergraduate studies at the Chugye University for the Arts in Korea. Sunghwan studied music composition at the Hanyang University and served as a pianist in the Republic of Korea Air Force Band for 27 months. He is a former member (pianist/organist) of one of the most prestigious sacred brass ensembles, Tim Zimmerman and the King's Brass for the last three years, performing over 400 concerts around the United States and overseas. He has performed in various venues such Werner Recital Hall, Watson Recital Hall, Weigel Auditorium, Hughes Auditorium, Mershon Auditorium, Davidson Theater and innumerable churches. Also, he was selected as a soloist for several major concerts such as the annual Music Celebration concert and Honors Recital Convocation at the Ohio State School of Music. In addition, he collaborated with Balletmet “Lineage” in Davidson Theater in 2018. A passionate educator, Sunghwan Kim has been teaching applied piano courses for non-major students and secondary major students at the Ohio State School of Music as well as private lessons in Korea and the United States for over 15 years.
