Alania Cordero is a soprano from San Antonio, Texas. She is pursuing a Master of Music in vocal performance with a Singing Health Specialization at The Ohio State University. She studies voice with Prof. Laura Portune and serves as a graduate teaching associate in the voice area. Her interests include vocal performance, musical theatre, vocal pedagogy, and singing health.

Cordero earned her Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she studied with John Nix. During her time at UTSA, she performed extensively in opera, musical theatre, choral, and concert settings. Her stage credits include Claire in Adam Gwon’s Ordinary Days, Marta in Stephen Sondheim’s Company, and the ensemble of Mozart’s Don Giovanni with UTSA Lyric Theatre, as well as Perón’s Mistress/Ensemble in Evita with San Pedro Playhouse. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall in Mozart’s Requiem and Fauré’s Requiem, and appeared as a soloist during the UTSA Choirs’ 2025 tour of Italy.

Cordero’s work reflects her interest in both classical and musical theatre performance. She has received recognition through NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competitions in both genres, including first place in the Lower Musical Theatre category at South Texas NATS in 2024. She was also selected as a demonstration singer for the 2025 NATS Science Informed Voice Pedagogy Institute. 

As she continues her graduate studies, Alania Cordero is especially interested in exploring the relationship between vocal health, voice science, and versatile performance across classical and musical theatre styles.
