In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15), the School of Music welcomes acclaimed guest artists Ana Letícia Barros, percussion, and Cecilia Zabala guitar, presenting a joint recital. These guest artist residencies are made possible by a collaboration between the School of Music, Center for Latin American Studies, and the College of Arts and Sciences new Faculty Project Grant.
Barros performs selected vibraphone solo works by Cyro Delvízio, Sergio Roberto de Oliveira and Marcos Vieira Lucas. Zabala plays her own solo guitar compositions as well as pieces by Chacho Echeñique and Hermanos Simón. The artists collaborate on selections by Zabala and Philippe Baden Powell, Egberto Gismonti, Luiz Gonzaga, and Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim.

Ana Letícia Barros is associate professor of percussion and chamber music at UNIRIO (University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and professor of Graduate Studies, PROEMUS (The Professional Master's Program in Teaching Musical Practices, UNIRIO). Timpanist and section leader of the Brazilian Women's Symphony Orchestra, she developed an extensive study on the six mallet technique on keyboard percussion as well, with several Brazilian works commissioned and premiered by her. She has presented masterclasses and workshops on "Brazilian Percussion and Six Mallets Technique" at the University of Georgia, Eastman School of Music, New York University and around the world. As a soloist, she has performed with numerous orchestras in the United States and internationally. Barros holds degrees from the Brazilian Conservatory (BM) and Federal State University of Rio de Janeiro (MM and DM). She served as first timpanist for 13 years in the Civil Symphonic Band of the City of Rio de Janeiro, and as teacher at the Project do Aço ao Clássico, in Volta Redonda City since 2005. Cecilia Zabala is a guitarist, singer, singer-songwriter and composer who has released 11 albums. She is one of the most outstanding Argentine artists, with permanent national and international tours. In 2018 she was awarded the National Prize for the Arts, the highest artistic recognition of her country, granted by the Ministry of Culture of Argentina. The Songlines Magazine (UK) has reviewed two of her recent albums, The Color of Silence and Foolin' in time in their #148 edition, June 2019. In 2021 Zabala released Violeta Secreta, an EP with 3 songs of the great Chilean artist Violeta Parra. In 2023 she released her latest album Aire Soy II, an album of her original compositions, recorded live in concert with her quartet. Visit Cecilia Zabala.

Getting Here
Park in the Ohio Union South Garage (open to visitors 24/7), walk north along College Rd. to enter the south doors of the Timashev Music Building.
You may also park in Arps Garage (open to visitors M–F after 4 p.m. and on weekends) just north of the Timashev Music building.
The Timashev Recital Hall is located on the ground floor, at the far north end of the building.
