Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. Competition Details and Application Instructions

Timeline

Application dates: Sunday, March 1–Monday, April 6

Deadline: Monday, April 6

Finalists announced: Friday, April 10

Live Competition: Sunday, April 19 at 5 p.m. in Timashev Room 160

  • Winning ensembles will be announced at 6:30 p.m.

Winners’ concert: Date/time TBD


Prizes

  • First Prize — $500
  • Second Prize — $300

Prize winners will be invited to perform at a Winners’ Concert.


Rounds

Preliminary Round

  • Repertoire — One movement of a chamber work (minimum of 7 minutes of music). If a movement if less than 7 minutes, the group may perform two contrasting movements from the same piece.
    • Include title of the chamber work, as well as the movement title in the application.
  • A video recording must be submitted with the application.
    • The ensemble coordinator will insert the unpublished YouTube link in a text box on the application form.

Final Round

  • Ensembles selected for the Final Round will perform the same repertoire as submitted in the preliminary round.
  • Date/time/location: Sunday, April 19 at 5 p.m. in Timashev 160.

Winners Announcement and Concert

  • The announcement will take place on April 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Timashev 160.
  • The Winners' Concert will follow. Winners may perform more than one movement from their selected work. 
  • Winners will also perform as part of the Opus 88 project. 

Eligibility and Application Guidelines

Application deadline: Monday, April 6 

  • All applicants must be enrolled/participating in an Ohio State School of Music course or ensemble.
  • Ensembles must consist of 3–5 musicians. 
  • At least one member must be a string player.
  • Each ensemble should select one member to serve as coordinator. This person will submit the online application and payment, as well as serve as the sole point of contact throughout the competition.
  • The application must include a link to a YouTube video for the Preliminary Round.


Application Fee

$10 per musician, payable to their ensemble coordinator.

After submitting the application, including the link to your first-round video, the ensemble coordinator will receive a confirmation email with a link to pay the application fee online via credit card.

The ensemble coordinator will complete and submit an online application on behalf of all group members. Collect this information in advance, to aid the application process.
