Selections presented by the First-Year Undergraduate String Orchestra, directed by Elizabeth Petersen, will include Sonata No. 8 (Corelli/McCashin); Sailing Kites (Reynard Burns) with Claire Button, piano; Petite Dance Suite (John Caponegro); Nocturne (William Hofeldt); Sea Songs (Vaughan Williams/Longfield); "Shepherd’s Dance" from Amahl and the Night Visitors (Menotti/Conley), with Tony Richards, piano and Kevie Bovaird, percussion.
The Ohio State University Community Orchestra will perform pieces in a variety of styles including several familiar tunes. Second American Folk Rhapsody, written and arranged for full orchestra by Ohio State alumna Clare Grundman; Dance of the Hours (Ponchielli); Variations on a Shaker Melody (Copland); Cossack Dance (Tchaikovsky/Dackow); and a wintertime favorite, Sleigh Ride (Anderson).
