Andy Woodson, lecturer of jazz bass, is one of the most in-demand bassists in the central Ohio area, and has been a vital part of the Columbus music scene since 1985. He received his BA in Music Performance (Jazz Studies) at The Ohio State University in 1989, and won an outstanding soloist award at the Tri-C Jazz Festival in 1988. He has worked as a bassist on cruise ships, and has performed at the Montreux, North Sea, Saratoga, and Newport Jazz Festivals, and has also toured Sweden and Japan. Andy has performed and recorded with D.D. Jackson, David Murry, Billy Hart, Vince Andrews, Hank Marr, Bobby Floyd, Mark Flugge, Jack Wilkins, Kim Pensyl, Bill Dobbins, Fareed Haque, Kenny Drew Jr., Byron Stripling, the Woody Herman Orchestra, and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. In addition to his work as a sideman, he also records his own music including Scioto (1997) and Catalpa (2002). He has been teaching jazz bass at Ohio State since 2004.
