Sophia Enriquez, graduate fellow, is a PhD student in ethnomusicology. Her dissertation project investigates Latinx music, identity and migration in the Appalachian region of the United States. Specifically, Enriquez’s work highlights the interactions of Southern/Appalachian U.S. and Mexican musical traditions. Enriquez holds a Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Folklore and is pursuing a graduate minor in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Her work has been presented at annual meetings of the Society for Ethnomusicology, Society for American Music, Appalachian Studies Association, and the American Folklore Society. Enriquez earned a bachelor's degree in Music Education from West Virginia University and enjoys performing locally in Columbus, Ohio as part of a female folk trio.
