Aleksandra (Sasha) Drozzina joins the Ohio State School of Music faculty in autumn 2024. She holds a PhD in Music Theory from Louisiana State University. Her dissertation entitled “Schnittke, Gubaidulina, and Pärt: Religion and Spirituality during the Late Thaw and Early Perestroika,” contextualizes selected religious and spiritual works within the 1970s and 1980s in the Soviet Union. She received her MA in Music Theory and BMus (Piano Major, History and Theory Specialization) from the University of Toronto.
Drozzina has presented her research on various Russian and Soviet music topics at the Society for Music Theory, Canadian University Music Society Annual Conference, and others. She is the current Chair of the Russian Music Theory Interest Group at SMT. Previously, Drozzina worked as Lecturer in music theory and coordinator of music theory and aural perception programs at the School of Music at Purdue University–Fort Wayne.
