Yong Jeon Cheong is a PhD candidate in Musicology. Her music education in her home country (Korea) made her wonder how music moves us and why people listen to music differently depending on their musical backgrounds, which led her to Ohio State. She completed her MM in composition with Dr. Jan Radzynski and MA in cognitive ethnomusicology with Dr. Udo Will in 2013. As a cognitive ethnomusicologist, she is interested in how musical onomatopoeia in various cultures functions in rhythm memorization and how speech surrogates work in tone language areas. Currently she is investigating how musicians create time and space in terms of multisensory integration.
