This subdiscipline has had significant growth in the past decade, especially since the founding in 2007 of the Society for Mathematics and Computation in Music (SMCM) and its Journal of Mathematics and Music (JMM). Graduate students have completed dissertations in our program on topics such as transformational theory and wavelet analysis. Courses including 20th-Century Tone Structure: Sets and Series, Transformational Theory & Analysis and Scale Theory: Tonality and Transformation anchor this aspect of our graduate program.
