Elise DesChamps, mezzo-soprano

Mendelssohn: The Hebrides Overture ("Fingal's Cave"); Mahler: Songs of a Wayfarer, featuring DMA competition winner Elise DesChamps, mezzo-soprano; Sibelius: Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Mark Rudoff, conductor; Scott McCoy, guest conductor.

Elise DesChamps appeals to audiences and critics alike as a compelling and charming artist in opera, oratorio and concert. She has been praised by Opera News for her “ability to handle coloratura effusions while bouncing with exhilaration about the stage,” and her latest Carmen was described as “rich, powerful, sensuous…the audience who observed her actions and heard her dark, rich mezzo-soprano voice admired her vocal and dramatic skills.” Recent engagements include a debut with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra as the title role in Carmen, a return to The Springfield Symphony in Mahler Symphony No. 2, a debut with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra as Mercedes in Carmen, and portrayals of Carmen with Springfield Symphony Orchestra and Asheville Lyric Opera. In concert, Ms. DesChamps recently sang Handel’s Messiah with the Virginia Symphony. She repeated this work with the Boise Philharmonic, Columbus State Community College and Ohio Christian College. During her Young Artist residencies, Ms. DesChamps sang Zinnia in Chabrier’s L’Étoile and Handmaiden in Turandot with Cincinnati Opera, and toured as the title role in La Cenerentola with Opera Columbus. Ms. DesChamps is a grateful recipient of numerous grants, scholarships and awards, including those of the Canadian Music Competition, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and the Bourassa Foundation. Elise returns this season for her fourth year as artist-in-residence at the Bay View Music Festival. She is currently on the voice faculty of Capital University, and is pursuing her DMA at Ohio State University as a teaching assistant in collaboration with Dr. Scott McCoy. She is an alumna of the Montreal Conservatory and Indiana University.
