Add to Calendar 2022-10-07 16:00:00 2022-10-07 17:30:00 Jazz Music and Remarks: Celebrating Public Domain Day Join us for a live performance of jazz music in celebration of Public Domain Day, the day when new works will enter the public domain in the U.S. The event will include remarks on the music, copyright developments and Ohio State resources and events that promote musical works entering the public domain for the first time. This event is presented by The Ohio State University Libraries. As part of the Public Domain Project, several School of Music alumni and students, led by trombonist Jeremy E. Smith (DMA 2022), will perform for a fun and informal event, Recreating Louis Armstrong's "Hot Five" Combo of 1926, featuring performances of public domain jazz tunes composed by Louis Armstrong, Lillian Harden and others, in versions recorded by Armstrong and his New Orleans-style combos in the 1920s. This event highlights new public domain editions of Armstrong and Hardin’s "Cornet Chop Suey" and "Flat Foot," transcribed and arranged by Alan Green from manuscript sources and recordings. Questions about public domain and the music will be welcomed following the performance. Ensemble musicians include Jerrod Shackelford, alto sax and clarinet; Ben Syme, tenor sax and clarinet; Alex Sanso, trumpet; Mike Foley, trombone; Jeremy E.
