As part of the Arts and Humanities Inaugural Lecture series, Professor Caroline Hartig discusses “Solo Clarinet from Classical to Klezmer” at 5 p.m. in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge. A reception will accompany the lecture; free and open to all. RSVP here for the lecture.

This lecture will celebrate some of the repertoire, composers, and performers that have influenced the evolution of the clarinet into a solo instrument of eminence. The collection displays the versatility and communicative powers of the clarinet and highlights its ties to opera in the 19th century and its development, during the first decades of the 20th century, in the competitive environment of the Paris Conservatoire as well as the resurgence of Klezmer music into the 21st century.
