Symphony Orchestra Auditions

Strings

To participate in The Ohio State University Symphony Orchestra, all string players are required to take a short audition for the full string faculty and the director of the Ohio State Symphony. These auditions will be used in faculty decisions on section placement and chamber music assignments. We will hear you play a brief solo (no more than two minutes — about one page of music) and a set of assigned excerpts as specified below.

These auditions are open to all interested string players: majors and non-majors, undergraduate and graduate. If you are new to the program and want to find out more about eligibility, please contact Prof. Mark Rudoff (rudoff.2@osu.edu).

ATTENTION! For eligible non-major string players only: If you have schedule conflicts with the rehearsals on Fridays, you are still strongly encouraged to audition for the Symphony Orchestra. Once you are accepted, please contact Prof. Rudoff to discuss an alternative arrangement for the conflict.
