Matthew Zabiegala

Matthew Zabiegala

Matthew Zabiegala was a proud member of The Ohio State University Men's Glee Club from 2008–2012. He was also a member of the Statesmen, served as the Public Relations Chair for two years, and was honored to be a recipient of the J. Norman Staiger Memorial Scholarship and a nominee for the Gallagher Spirit Award.

Matthew was honored to be featured as a frequent soloist on MGC concert tours with his operatic rendition of Agustin Lara's "Granada." While he studied with Professor Loretta Robinson and collaborated with pianist Casey L. Cook, Matthew's opportunities led to numerous solo and choral engagements in Columbus, Ohio in Capital University's Choral Union, a feature of his voice recital "Songs of Transcendence," on Classical101; and performances of major works at Worthington United Methodist Church, St. Joseph's Cathedral, and First Congregational Church.

Upon graduating with a bachelor's degree in music education, Matthew enjoyed an initial career as director of choral activities at Central Crossing High School and Worthington Kilbourne High School, and director of the Chancel Choir at New Albany United Methodist Church. Matthew took pride in leading these programs through innovative and philanthropic programming, community outreach and involvement; and most importantly, offering musicians a healthy environment in which to cultivate their artistry. These values are attributed to the indelible education Matt received at Ohio State while studying with Dr. Robert J. Ward, Dr. Richard Schnipke, Dr. Kristina Caswell-MacMullen and Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt.

Matthew holds a master's degree in choral conducting from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University (NJ); he served as an assistant conductor, chorister and featured soloist for the Glee Club, Kirkpatrick Choir and University Choir. He was afforded the opportunity to deliver inspirational performances at Lincoln Center; Trinity Church Wall Street; National and Regional ACDA Conferences; internationally in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and in Germany at the Martkoberdorf Chamber Choir Competition.

Matthew is currently the director of choral activities at Morris Knolls High School in Rockaway, NJ, the artistic director of the New Jersey Chamber Singers, and a professional artist with the Atlanta-based Kinnara Ensemble.

On his time in the Glee Club, Matthew writes:

It is the greatest joy to see former students thriving as current members of the Ohio State Men's and Women's Glee Clubs!
