Introduction to Operatic Stage Techniques

MUSIC 3310/6710 is offered during both autumn and spring semesters. Introduction to Operatic Stage Techniques seeks to provide an understanding of the performer’s position within the lyric theatre and engender the development and application of a personal performance technique through group exercise, lectures, presentations and in-class discussions. Participants empower their communication skills through the balancing of voice, face and body usage with a focus on character development through score/text analysis. During the spring semester, focus shifts to the creation of an individual audition package and provides one-on-one dramatic coaching with group feedback in preparation for both professional and educational audition experiences. Autumn participation is a prerequisite for participation in spring.
