2009 HalleBOOia! concert a great success!

Zebulon Highben (BME 2002) is a DMA student in choral conducting at Michigan State University, where he is a teaching assistant in both the choral area and in music history. He is Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, and will serve as a guest conductor of the Saginaw Choral Society in 2010. His choral compositions and arrangements are published by Augsburg Fortress publishers.

Announcing Lessons for All Non-Majors!

Starting Winter quarter 2010, the School of Music will offer Music 216.(xx), performance lessons for non-majors.  Guitar, piano and voice have been especially requested by many students and now we hope to be able to accommodate interested students for these and some other instruments as well.   If you sign up for one credit, you will get a 30 minute lesson per week for a fee of $75; two credits will earn you a one-hour weekly lesson for a fee of $150.  We still offer group lessons in piano, voice, guitar as well.

Charles M. Atkinson Designated an Inaugural Arts & Humanities Distinguished Professor for 2009

Charles M. Atkinson has been designated an Inaugural Arts & Humanities Distinguished Professor for 2009. This prestigious appointment allows him to hold the permanent honorific title of Arts & Humanities Distinguished Professor of Music. Professor Atkinson, who joined the musicology faculty in 1978, received the University Distinguished Scholar Award in 1990, became the inaugural University Distinguished Lecturer in 1996, and has thrice received the School of Music Distinguished Research Award.
